Many bridal customs and ceremonies date back to antiquity. Classical Greece is the origin of one very significant part of Greek Orthodox weddings known as the Crowning Ceremony.
Two crowns or garlands, joined by white ribbon are placed on the bride and groom’s heads by their priest. They are then exchanged by their sponsor the “Koumbaros” (a best man, woman or couple). The Wedding Crowns or “Stefana” are traditionally a gift from the Koumbaros. It is common these days to have a stefana made from pearls or artificial blossom. For something a little more individual, Wendy has designed many beautiful crowns and garlands for her clients, much admired by their priest, family and friends. These quality pieces are destined to become family treasures.
